Cali..
Is there a bunch of cutting and hacking required to install a double din in my 05? Wondering if my life would be easier if I ordered a single din flip out DVD player instead of the double din... Thanks..

03+ trucks are factory double din and require no cutting other than maybe a couple small pieces of plastic. 01-02 are 1.5 din IIRC and require a little bit of work.

Depending on model of head unit, you might have to cut the plastic brace behind the radio. My old pioneer fit just fine but my newer one was a little bit longer and required slight modification.

:yup:

Also get a wire harness while you're at it. Converts the factory plug to your aftermarket radio wire harness. I would not recommend cutting your factory harness.

:yup:

Especially since the 03+ don't have a switched ignition in the harness. It's a data bus system.

GMOS-01 with onstar and no Bose
GMOS-04 with onstar and Bose
GMRC-01 without onstar or Bose.

Those are Metra part numbers. I have had much better luck with Metra rather than Scosche.

sorry for the crappy pic,it was at night.you can see where I had to ad small pieces to the side to fill in.pioneer double din 7" screen.
hardest part was getting all the wires to push back up and into the dash.
used the factory locking rails,.5" thick aluminum bar stock to take up the difference.attached to the head unit, makes install real easy.

^ Agreed, buy the install kit and the harness adapter. I've had to repair so many botched installs because someone shelled out $400+ for a stereo and skimped on the $15 for the kit.

I have a Jensen deck and I had to cut out the plastic "bucket" that the factory radio slid into to create a little clearance. Couple minutes with pliers breaking out the plastic pieces then cleaning it up with a dremel, it's not too bad.

You have an 02, OP has an 05. He won't need to do the same things you did.

Looks good btw!
