Can't we change the compressor wheel only and get better performance or is it not that simple or doesn't work like that? Was chatting with a ricer yesterday and said he did that and recomended it. I'm guessing that its not comon on our truck since you're better off with a new turbo or something.

depending what you want out of it. thats what they call a "hybrid turbo" or "modified vgt". fleece performance does this type of modification.

Is it expensive? How are the gains? Gains worth the money? Haven't read any threads or anyone doing this. I'd like to keep the "factory warranty" in place.

modified vgts are alot of money, if you buy one from venders. You could buy the wheel at a turbo shop and have someone machine the cover and cartridge for the bigger wheel. Something to think about, if the compressor wheel is alot larger than the turbine wheel; it will surge (flutter). It will be worth it for warranty reasons, and will help out moving more air. But a whole different turbo will yield more gains
