Ive come up with a new idea to do some heims joints for my truck steering. i built a set before but wound up sellin them to a friend for his project since i didnt like how i did it. But heres what im lookin at. I have the Exaxt steering kit and it goes a great job of keepin the tires straight in 4wd under full boost but the inner tie rods still allow a little toe in and i dont like it. i can not find another inner tie rod thats stronger so thats why im doin this. my question is, if a tap the 1 1/4" .250 wall DOM steel tube on the lathe, would it be suitable to hold my heims with out rippin the threads out? I can order the weld in bungs but i dont mind puttin a little work into the tube and save a few bucks unless it is concurred it would be unsafe. in that case id just get the bungs, plus id jus really like to know what im workin with as far as strengths and what not. BTW the heims are 7/8" rod ends

Santa, I'd like a CST 9-11 with all the bells and whistles...hint it's in AZ! still gotta do the math and make sure if I buy it I can still pay my insurance, get new tires/wheels when the 40s wear out and car payment etc without cleaning out my bank acct

it will work but I never do it...I tried it on a panhard setup for a rock buggy and after flexing a few times the heim ripped the threads out of the tubing and the joint was fine...given it saw alot more stress then the dmax steering prolly will

yeah thats the only thing im worried about cause im not easy on the steering in 4wd. If it were chromoly tube i wouldnt worry about it. hmmm, i guess i can try it and jsut constantly check the rod for slack between the threads. if it starts to yank it out, ill jsut lathe out the theads and weld a chromoly bung in there.

this one flexed about 40" over a rock and just let go all at once...I'd do cromo tubing just to be sure or bungs they are cheap insurance

Those are awesome 1Low! Question for you... Did you use a right and left hand thread on each or are they both right hand threads?
