Curious to know if you need a special compression tester for use on the Duramax engine? Will a standard tester work for this? Do you take your reading through the glow plug ports? Should you pull all the plugs to allow turning over easier? What do you do to prevent the engine from starting when the key is used to crank it? Do you let it start momentarily? I know I also need to disconnect the main wiring to the control module for the glow plugs to prevent the wires from becoming hot.

Thanks again for everyone's help on this.;)

harbor freight, its a generic multi purpose one. 25 bucks iirc. yes you hook up to one glow plug port at a time.

disconnect the ecm harness and test away
