Yea, that's what I'm saying!

Van was bought as a certified used. Free oil changes for 2 years. It was due, and I had a couple hours to kill so I spin into a chevy dealer. They got me in and out in under 10 minutes so i was wondering if they did a FULL LOF. get under it to look and see that.

The only fix for that is a Duramax swap...

JK :D. Doesn't look good to me. Hope they will fix under warranty. Kind of hard to trust a vehicle you think may lose all it's oil any time.

It looks like it propagates up to the top of the photo into the flange? The problem is it is only going to get bigger in my opinion.

Is that a piece of dirt that is circled in red in the attached picture?

I'll get a better look at it today and better pic.

Van has 25,000 miles so should be covered under 3/36 warranty.

I just hope they don't 'shut me down' if I take it in today, saying its not ok to drive. June was my best month so far for work, and july is starting out just as strong. Got a good money week going this week. I can work with it being down next week, no problem. Maybe I'll wait until Friday to take it in.

Funny, I've been hearing these weird creaking noises when I put it in D or R, or sometimes as the van is rolling and push the gas pedal. Not a driveline play noise. I described it to the service department where I bought it as kindof a creaking or like the sound of an electric short popping. Doesn't seem to do it after an hour on eway, but cold engine and shorter drives it does it a lot.

Van has 25,000 miles so should be covered under 3/36 warranty.

It may not apply to a used vehicle (it should), but the oil pan would be covered under the 5/72 powertrain warranty.

Even if they don't warranty it you should get it replaced. They are pretty easy to do in vehicle (especially if you have access to a lift). Fortunately the truck style oil pans are only $150 new and much cheaper used. Although, I suspect that it will be warranted if it is a crack.

My 5.3L has some casting flashing that makes its pan look cracked, but after probing it with various implements I determined that wasn't cracked. It may be the same for yours.

Die cast alum or mag often has ejection flash on them which look like cracks but are not.

Sand an area down smooth. Take a felt pen and try to soak it in the crack line. If you can't sand the felt pen line away after that (sometime the sanding will make a true crack hard to see), then yup, look like a rock hit or something.

The way the oil is climbing up it makes me think it is indeed a crack. I say take it in when you get the chance. But no sense turning away work to do it. Just keep a close eye on the oil pressure gauge while driving.

Made an appointment for Monday. Tomorrow is the only day I'm concerned about, driving it about 100 miles. The rest of the week I wont put 25 miles on it Thurs/fri combined. Could get towed to job sites if I have to:woott:

Yea. That's what the dealership said, the first dealer screwed up the oil change, all the oil was from the filter was leaking.

You found your leak, leaks are tough to diagnose. Cleaning/detailing the engine is usually in order first and we do not always have that luxury. Had a leak in small block chevy appeared to be a rear main, changed the main seal nope (rebuilt warranty) had to find it myself as this was my service/only truck. After a thorough cleaning and then checking every 25 miles or so I found an oil galley plug just above the timing chain cover leaking. Migrated down the side of the block to the rear of the motor. Fixed the plug, leak gone. Good to hear no major issue was found on yours

My first thought when I saw it was somebody had hit it with a lift/jack suspecting the shop hit the pan, messed up filter gasket, whew........
