Ever since my dad got his 07.5 and I got my 08 the rotors would get hot real easy and warp while braking and fade. Once they were allowed to cool they would be fine. At about 15000 miles I had my rotors turned and put on more aggresive brake pads. The rotors had surface cracks in them. Once I put the new pads on, the rotors only got worse. The brakes still worked great and had little fade, but under braking they would get real hot and the steering wheel would shake. I went to the track and slowing down from 110+mph after three or four times the rotors got soo hot they were warped permently. I have never had any problems with the brakes in my dads 04 3500 and 05 3500 dually under the same conditions. I went to Napa and bought some premium rotors to try out because I believe from 01-07 -NBS, the material they used for rotors were changed. Once I put on the new rotors (fronts only) I couldn't believe the difference. The brakes work way better than before. I went out and tried to get them hot. I went from 100mph to 40mph, then 120mph to 0, then to 70mph and did a panic stop. I could smell the brakes getting hot but they didn't fade or warp. I could feel that the rear brakes were starting to warp. Before, if I went from 110mph to 60mph (not hard on the brakes just enough to slow me down) They would start to warp ever since the truck was brand new.

Here are a few pics of the rotor with 31000miles on them and have already been turned once.

Good info. Curious to see if anyone else is having the same problem? Not doubting the issue or being an asshole just curious.

I haven't had any problems with my rotors or pads running 39.5's. I am looking to upgrade when the pads need changed on my truck. Obviously i'm putting extra strain on the pads and rotors with the bigger tires.

I remember reading that the 2010 or 2011 trucks got bigger brakes. I can't remeber which year but I was thinking about going with the larger OEM's but i'm sure the aftermarket guys offer a much better product.

I remember reading another person with the NBS had a similar issue on DP. But I have never had a problem with the brakes on our older trucks.

your calipers are binding up... take the brakes apart like heymccall says to on the diesel place and I bet you will stop burning up rotors. ;)

I have the same issue with my truck- they heat up and warp giving a shake when braking. After they cool the shake is gone until the next time they get heated up.

Duratothemax- you say that the slide bolts arent allowing the pads the applying evenly? I will take it apart and check it out. THANKS Steven

It must be the material there using for rotors these days. My wife's '08 malibu (granted she drives hard) has 26k on it. rotors replaced by GM at 14k and now comming off again. Pads are like new. When I picked up my injector last week at dealer, I asked service mngr while I was waiting. He said "It's not uncommon to go through 3 sets of rotors to one pad set." So, I'll cut them this time if possible. But I guess next time I'll get an aftermarket set.

I have to agree with Ben on this one. McCall's DIY is pretty good. There were so many with issues with those calipers! Where is the knock on wood smiley?
