Micron rating on the OEM new improved fuel filter?

Also does anyone know or point me to a chart of sorts that has Cat filter part numbers and micron ratings? My thinking is I want to run a larger micron rating at my lift pumps and then the 1 micron at the final instead of 1 micron at both.

After all these years I have never bought a Nicktane adapter for the factory fuel filter to a Cat filter . Can you believe it? :D

Seems I still got a buddy in Sac Ca , not that I had any doubts, took one email and he hooked me up , Oh Ya !

Friggen ordered it about two hours later I got the shipping info,unreal! I miss Nick. :(

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would strongly suggest you not get rid of the stock filter without adding a water separator. Water is arguably the cause of more problems than anything else in our fuel systems. Cat filters are just that. They don't do anything for water.

Get the nicktain adapter and use a donaldson filter P553203. it is a fuel filter and water separator(3 micron). you can also get a clear bowl to put at the bottom of the filter. (P569758 clear bowl). it is also a good idea the get the 3/4 spacer for the fuel filter head.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would strongly suggest you not get rid of the stock filter without adding a water separator. Water is arguably the cause of more problems than anything else in our fuel systems. Cat filters are just that. They don't do anything for water.

Cat has specific water separator filters (primary filter) around 10 micron. They use a much tighter micron rating on the secondary filter. It used to be 2 micron but they have changed the industry standard to 3 or 4 micron ( I can't find where I read about the changes).

Here is a little light reading with some of Cat's filter ratings. Make sure you guys get the Absolute ratings on your filters as well. Below is a chart that helps shed some light on the size of a micron/microns. 5 microns can damage the high pressure common rail fuel system.

I'd imagine this is what corrodes up the fuel lines in your opinion? I have never gotten any water out of the drain in my stock filter. That isn't to sat that there isn't water in or condensation in the fuel purchased or even in my tank. I'm not doubting you that it is a problem I'm just not sure the factory filter or water separator catcher works in our truck. Thats one of the reason I'd like a list of the Cat filters as at one time I had one that had a drain on the bottom that I could use as my pre-filter at the pumps. Therefore I'd still have the protection if needed. I appreciate the advice certainly if I get the number of that Cat filter thats the one I'll use.

Looks like Burn Down knows the filter also but I need the part number if possible. They aren't so friendly at the Cat dealer when you ask for a filter with a drain guess I'll just have to google it.
