some of the material testing of the R8 tubing didn't seem to line up with the bullet points listed on that page about being superior.

It seemed to be less brittle than 4130 but deformed easier. i'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I would think that I would want the rigidity of the 4130 choromoly to disperse the load and break if needed verses bending locally like a soda can.

I'm no authority and talking out of my ass here, but someone elighten me here.

How I see it is, would you want a collapse-ability by deformation or would you like a complete break that could possibly start a sequence of other breaks that could expose the driver to more danger. There can be many ways to look at it.

In a crash I would rather it bend than break and fail completely. Seems like it would be more forgiving to fabricators also.

good points, i guess it would depend on where the deflection occurs of r8 occurs vs when the 4130 yields and brakes.

Yeah, I would say 4130 is a very good product obviously, its just when something comes out with the deformation characteristics the DOCOL R8 does have, IMO if you can afford it why not?
