Do I need a modded cp3?

I have +80hp injectors and I'm running a 40hp or 60hp superchips tune but I will be going with the efi live very soon. Do I need to mod my cp3 or not? What are the consequences of running the fuel rail dry? And my apologies to everyone that I post on here so much, I'm just trying to soak up all the knowledge and information that I can because I dream of one day making a living doing diesel performance like Trent Nell and some of the other guys on here and my truck is my test dummy/thesis

I don't see a lift pump i your signature, so if you don't have one, that would be a 'must', in my opinion. Might as well add an aux filter also - Tank, then filter then pump.

If the fuel rail runs dry, your engine isn't running. That's how the fuel gets to your injectors. No fuel, no run.

As for a modded CP3 pump, that depends on how you use your truck. I'd try it after you add the lift pump and see if any problems with fuel starvation/low rail pressure.

I'm planning on going with a 175gph FASS and I'm aware that if it runs dry the truck will die but I wasn't sure if lack of fuel could damage the injectors, like when the lift pump isn't feeding the injector pump enough it will kill the injector pump

Air cavitation is hard on injectors and the pump... Imho you have no need for a modified cp3 at the moment

It will also depend on your tuning. With a 60 hp tune no but if you go with a efi live full race tune then yes.

The tune I get will still be somewhat tame as the truck is still my dd and it's fast enough to dust all the diesels around here just the way it sits :) all the guys around here put a chip on their truck and think it's hot shit lol

I have a zf6 manual, clutch is on the to do list but since I'm replacing the flywheel anyway with a smf when I do the clutch I'm gonna run it til it gives out

Once you start adding fuel it will not last, with all my mods I have done to my truck( besides RDL ups and manifolds) I did my trans last to see what would happen.. Last 3 hours lol so plan on building your trans soon when / if you do cp3 and lift pump

I had heard that the zf6 didnt need much modification other than the clutch. Where would i get a good kit for the zf6?

Mine stock cp3 wouldnt hold rail pressure with 20% injectors and a lift pump.
Im confused? I thought the lift pump would help it hold rail pressure? And stupid question but my injectors are rated at +80hp, about what percent over stock would that be?

The lift pump does help it hold rail pressure but my race tune and injectors where to much for my stock pump to handle. 80 hp injectors is 20-30% over.

Oh i see, I didn't realize you were running a race tune. So in conclusion I should have nothing to worry about at the moment right?

Depends on how much HP your goal is. 500rwhp is easy today with a stock CP3.

Porting the regulator can gain about 40rwhp, this is cheap and easy to do compared to a CP3 R&R.

Lift pump is a given. Cheap and fixes a known problem - Fuel tank level is below the CP3 inlet and is a "suction" system, which is silly. Pushing is way more effective than pulling.

Thanks McRat, 500rwhp is plenty for what I use my truck for. Another question, what kind of top speed would you estimate that I would get out of my my stock zf6 gear ratios at 3200rpm with a .355 and .335 rear end gear
