I tried the antenna delete where you lay it down inside the fender, but the reception was crap (not really shocking but I thought I'd try). Then I got the idea that I could use the rear window defroster strips as an antenna. I used to use a regular old piece of electrical wire for a radio antenna in my bedroom when I was a kid and it worked pretty well. Just wondering if it'd work the same way. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Why not run an antenna up thru the passenger A pillar under the plastic inside trim? Would that work or would the truck body interfere with reception?

I dunno. That might work. I just figured keeping it vertical and exposed as much as possible was better. I could be wrong. That happens a lot. haha

The metal pillar will interfere with reception.

I did the same mod and my reception is fine. But I am in anchorage, ak. So any radio reception I get is right here. What I did get but not installed is a splitter for the antenna and got one of those antenna's that you can stick to the top of the windshield or back window and have both of them hooked up.

How do you plan on attaching the wire? Are you going to keep the defroster functional? I think it could work well.

I was planning to use about 2" of the existing wires coming off that weird connector so I can reconnect the defroster if I get stationed somewhere it gets cold again. I figure I can just get a long antenna wire from Radio Shack or something and a connector, solder it together, and hopefully get good radio reception.

Thats how antennas on a lot of cars were mounted 20 years ago. They worked fine. I have no idea why GM reverted back to the mast antenna.

Some of the new Buicks's, Impalla's and Tahoes/Suburbans have the antenna in the rear window factory. However they have a module that amplifies the signal.

If you tint the window it messes up the reception.

That last bit isn't good news. I have 20% on all my windows.

Depends on the kind of tinting and setup I believe. Had a new Buick Lacrosse that the customer complained his AM reception didn't work at all. Turns out the rear window had tinting on it from a previous owner. Only the AM reception was affected so it may not be as bad for FM/Key fobs.

On my truck I had a two-way keyless entry antenna on my windshield. Had a 20% strip put on the top and they re-installed my antenna on it. Never worked after that until I relocated the antenna off the tinting.

Well I went to the local radio shack, but no luck yet. Anyone see any reason why I shouldn't use a coax cable from a CB antenna?
