Did I just mess up my transmission

Today I was driving my truck, a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD with Duramax Diesel and Quadzilla programmer, and decided to pass a car uphill(probably a little faster than I should have). As soon as I passed it, the check engine light came on. When I got to the next hill, I seemed like it didn't want to accelerate despite giving it gas(slipping tranny?). I immediately pulled off to the side and turned it off and back on. It started doing it again, not accelerating after about 50. So I put it into the manumatic gears for a little while. I then put it back in drive and it worked perfectly and is still working perfectly. The check engine light also turned off. This has never happened before. What seemed to be the problem and should I be worried?

Trans Limp? Mine use to do it alot on my LBZ when trans started going bad? Fill out your sig so people can help you by knowing if your truck is stock or what.

Limped transmission? Is this a vehicle threatening issue and should I pay to have it fixed right away?

Over time it'll get easier to limp like said above. Should build that Trans!

Congrats on limping your trans for the first time! Sorry man, it's happened to most of us on here. No it's not a vehicle threatening issue. However, once it happens once, it will get easier and easier to do. If you continue to use your programmer and put extra power to the truck it will most likely limp again..and again and you'll have to build your transmission. If you take the programmer off and are easy on the truck, it may never limp again. All depends on how you drive.

Get the codes read that it threw to trigger the check engine light before you do anything though

Congadulations...you just graduated from the blissfully ignorant club to the I limped it club! Welcome!:thumb:
Pull the Quad and your tranny "should" live a long life or leave it on and let us know about where you are so we can point you to a reputable tranny shop to get it beefed-up...FYI...this is not the time to go cheap...you have been warned!

Do you have a lift pump?

Nope as far as I know I dont, this truck was an inheritance from a deceased family member so I couldn't say for sure. If it doesn't have a lift pump, will it not be an error 0087? If I wanted to find out where do I check for a lift pump.

More than likely you dont have a lift pump. You really need to retrieve the code to tell whats going on but if the check engine light isnt on I dont think you can. My first guess would be low fuel rail preasure. This happens when you have a tune that fuels hard and the cp3 pump cant keep up. You have a reduced power situation and limited to 2000 rpms. Similar to a trans limp but you will be stuck in 3rd gear with a trans limp. Also if your fuel filter isnt in good shape like Harbin mentioned you'll have the same issue when runing a big tune. I would just drop the power level and drive it. More than likely that will solve your problem. Also search 0087 and read up a little on this code, It sounds to me that this is probably your problem.

Yeah just checked for DTC's using the programmer and the only thing that popped up was a 0087. I would really prefer to keep it the way it is for sentimental reasons so what should I do to fix this besides lowering the tuning level. I already will drive more slower. How about just changing the fuel filter?

We all understand the sentiment value...sorry to hear of how you came by your truck...however to truly uphold the sentimental value, and the value and longevity of that very nice gmc, you should heed the advise of the members here, we all try to look out for each other and really want the best for your duramax and your diesel experience. To run your rig tuned, there are far better options than a quadzilla:rolleyes: and if you are to run it tuned at 100 whp or more over stock you really need to consider applying these 3 thing to your rig... 1) a lift pump with dual filter(2 micron fuel and water separator) 2) transgo jr shift kit (to preserve the transmission) 3) fuel pressure relief valve shim kit with two washers applied and a ported fuel rail fitting on the drivers side rail

For safe measure, an efi live STOCK TRANS TUNE is really the way to go for your tuning Needs, there are several very awesome vendors here on this site that would love to take care of your needs, and they will take care of you and provide a level of service and understanding not to mention be willing to impart knowledge unto you, like stealth/quadzilla guys could only dream of

I am not trying to sound pushy or bossy about this, after all its only my opinion, hope all works out for you and your dmax, welcome to the site, take care:hello:

You have two options, lower the power level on the Quad or install a liftpump. I would lower the power level a little, this will save your trans. Do not install a shim kit, on the LBZ's this is not a big issue as other models. You can damage your FPRV trying to install one and more than likely dont need it. Good thing you didn't have the trans rebuilt isnt it?

how would shimming the prv on an LBZ be a bad idea or damage it? Isn't it the same or very similar to the lly's, hell I had to shim my LMM.... shimming the prv is nearly one of the first things dmax owners should do, if they're going to add more fuel.

hell lets cut the debate and just do a bottle test and see if she's cracking open.

Watson accidentally damaged his, iirc, and now has a phobia of this mod;)
With carful attention this is an easy job, and worth the peace of mind, to me anyways, but, to each their own:hug:
