Can someone please help me make sense of what the dealer is doing here? They are saying since his truck makes 159mpa's and anything over 158mpa is not covered. He is having white smoke at idle, no fuel in oil. The dealer did not do a return flow test either, just hooked up the tech 2.

Attached is a pdf of what the dealer sent my uncle while he is in california, his truck is currently in Lousiana. Thanks

Thats weird that their going by the regulator pressure & not checking balance rates.

Not only that, but balance rates alone is not enough to get injectors changed. I thought the bulletin said at one time the return flow must be out of spec before changing out the injectors would be covered.

special policy requires us to have a snapshot taken of the pressure. According to gm if the injectors are leaking they will be unable to make max pressure. Your buddy probably just has 1 or 2 clogged and not cracked...

So in your opinion after working at a dealer, would you say the "injector cleaning" they want $350 for is worth it or not? When I think of a "injection cleaning" I think rip off at a commercial tire/lube joint.

Yeah, that seems odd. Whether you can successfully command full rail pressure at idle just means the CP3 ain't shot. It can deliver several times the correct amount of fuel at idle. So if an injector is leaking, it won't show unless it's way bad.

On page 3, under the heading "Correction" it says that if the truck is reaching full Mpa's while at idle then "the technician should follow SI diagnostics" which leads me to believe the dealer is using the special policy for the cp3( http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4729 )pump to deny his claim on the injectors.

That's a 6.5 TSB?

I would run, not walk away from a dealer who apparently isn't really familiar with the Duramax engine. MK Smith is good (in Chino, CA), Victor GMC (Corona) is bad, maybe some others could chime in.

If the rail pressure is commanded and goes to at least 158 mpa then the special policy for a full set of injectors does not apply end of story with GM.

As far as cleaning injectors for clogging and excessive balance rates the jury is still out. You could do the same thing by buying a good fuel system cleaner/treatment and running it for some time and see if the smoke goes away. Then have the balance rates checked again.

Another thing is if their not testing properly (ie. vehicle hot at operating temp) they will get false readings if things are marginal.

I was thinking about that, but what if he pays the money and then it doesn't work he is out cash and still has a truck that doesn't work. Kinda sounds like a lose lose.

The truck in question has a chip and like you my uncle removed it before going to the dealer, they have not said anything yet. I got my injectors replaced and I use efi live have guages and a single stack, dealer didn't say anything. I was lucky.

tell him to pour a gallon of diesel fuel in the crank and take it to the dealer:rofl:

That is not a very good idea IMO. My uncle asked me if he should do that and I advised him not too because of the damage diesel fuel can cause while in the crankcase. Just doesn't seem like a good idea, I could be wrong though.

yea it just kinda sucks because now i have a 20,000$ yard ornament till i can come up with the money to replace them. unless i can find a dealer to do it for free i just don't feel like taking it to every dealer in this area just for them to say the same thing as the first one and then ask for 200 bucks for looking at the truck. i have been thinking of taking mine and having them rebuild at a injection shop if i can find one and its not going to cost a arm and a leg.
