Guys I am trying to figure out how to turn them off; I know you can do it by the light switch every time but I want to go with HIDs and don’t want them to fire as soon as I try to start the truck. Is their fuses I can remove or something I will have to live with? Thanks J,C,

Ok I got a question since this came up. Can you make them stay on all the time, even in park?

To clarify I mean DRL not headlights. I want them to be on all the time the key is on unless the headlights come on.

For your '02 all you would need to do is splice your DRL circuit into an ignition hot circuit. Fuse it of course.

If you wanted to get technical you could find the ground control circuit for the powertrain relay and splice that into the ground control for the DRL relay.

You da man. A search came up with a bajillion threads on altering or turning off tue DRL. So I guess I'm just way different.

Couldn't you could just run a diode like we do for the all on mod?

Sent from a ditch being dug near you

That is sort of a simplified version of what I just said I guess. You would run a diode from the control terminal of the DRL relay to the powertrain/EDU relay. I can't remember how that relay is labeled on an '01-'02.

The more I think of it I'm glad you mentioned the diode. You would definitely have to use a diode as you wouldn't want the DRL circuit powering the ignition circuit unintentionally. I know using my key fob at night will illuminate the DRL's. If they're tied together that would turn on the ignition as well.

I'm just basing this off of wiring schematics that I have access to.

When you verified the DRL's were still operational did you have the vehicle in the sun or a bright flashlight on the sunlight sensor? All the other running lights weren't on are they? Just want to make sure the BCM isn't engaging your headlight circuit and giving you a false diagnosis.

It was late in the day; kind of dark use a flash light to remove fuse. Started truck and they came on; so I guess that was what you are saying BCM?

If you had to use a flashlight to find the fuse then more than likely it was too dark and the BCM was just turning on your normal automatic lights. Check again during the day or put a bright flashlight on the light sensor in the center of the dash by the windshield. Key on, in neutral/drive with the parking brake off.

Thanks will do

Your DRL only come on once the truck is put in gear. Are you wanting to disable the auto headlight function?

Yes Sir, didnt want them coming on in the shop every morning when I leave for work. I was thinking about HID from PPE but the on an Off would not be good for them.

Don't know if it will work, but you could try disconnecting the ambient light sensor in the dash.

TX of course
If I remember correctly you have to hardwire a resistor around the ambient light sensor.
X2 thats the way the old trucks where

I would disable the DRLs, but I wouldn't worry about them coming on in the shop. You don't wear out HIDs by them coming on and off every once and a while. You damage them be having them go off and then back on without giving them time to cool down. Like shutting your truck off to fuel up at night.
