For years I have wanted a vehicle hoist but could never talk my Dad into installing one in the shop :D. After graduating college I moved from state to state so never had a place.

We now own a house and my one requirement was it have a 3 car garage. We were able to find one and it has 11' 8" ceils so I've been looking at putting a lift in. Problems is I would have to put it in the far third stall & because the stupid third stall is stepped back 4' like every other house I wouldn't have a straight shot to get on the lift, it doesn't help that I have a dually.

So that made any hopes of having a nice 2 post lift not happen.

With that said I've been looking at the Dannmar MaxJax portable lift. Im fully aware it's only rated for 6k lbs and my pickup weighs over 8k. What I would want to use it for would be service/repairs on our impala and/or lighter weight vehicles and pulling the cab on my pickup or others to do heads and other engine work.

I know its not ideal, just looking at other options being a full size lift won't fit.
I also like that I can unbolt it and put it in the corner so I have full use of the garage, which I will need.

For the little looking I've done I haven't seen it was approved by the loft athority people, what ever they're organization name is :roflmao:.

With all that said has anybody used those lifts before or have another suggestion?

Thanks guys,
Russell

They get positive results on other forums. Do a search on garage journal for them. Lots of reason material. I would consider one too but the capacity just isn't enough

Russ why don't you get a big portable lift.A 4 post with wheels then you can roll it around the garage and you could use it for your pick up when needed.I think Pat was just talking about these.Heck you could probably put the pick up all the way up in the air and park the Impala underneath it :D

They look pretty good and you could put them in the corner out of your way when not needed. Capacity is also a problem; I'm actually surprised they can lift 6k.

I've thought about that too but I'm affraid my garage isn't deep enough. The 3rd stall side is almost 23' deep by 10' wide but only has an 8' x 8' door so my pickup won't go through. The two car side is only 19' deep so my pickup won't fit anyway. The pickup will fit if I go through the two car at an angle into the 3rd stall side then through the front end toward the 3rd stall side give me enough room to park the impala in too.

The other thing I forgot too is the floor is sloped from the front to the back of the garage, I'm not sure of the pick but its noticable. With that side I would have to bust out 2 posts for the MaxJax to sit or 4 for a 4 post lift I would imagine so it would be close to even.

I may just have to give it up altogether.
