Did some custom lowering of the front and back today.... long day

For the back I had already built extended shackles and pulled leaf springs, so today I ground down all the rivets on the hangers and knocked them out, then modified the stock hangers and put them back on the truck 2" higher for a little more drop (and better pinion angle). Came out nice!

For the front I decided to try something I haven't seen and it appears to be a pretty decent idea.....

I took the stock perches that the keys rest on our, and built my own...sorta.

Built some plates with some big ass bolts and welded the plates on the bottom of the crossmember. Angled the nuts slightly and welded them onto the plates. Ground the head of the bolt to fit in the keys nicely and bam...lowered the front..... here is a pic... just thought I'd share. Basically did a free 3/5 (or maybe slightly more) drop.... Fronts have a little bit of noticeable camber, not sure what I can do though because I guess I can't fit spindles with 16" wheels anyway (and I like my 951's)

Anyway, thanks for looking/commenting,

Todd

Here is a pic.... neon zip tie heaven!!! (dont ask, I couldn't find my pack of black ones... and yes, I am zip tie happy.)

Cut up pieces of larger hoses to protect the hose anywhere it comes in contact with anything else. I'm not real thrilled where the pre-filter ended up, but it's securely fastened ... to a metal bracket.. there is actually a couple metal brackets to support the hose, filter etc.

Ooohh.. make sure you tighten the bottom allens on the pump, Holley doesn't bother

So far it's working well. Seems like a slight weep of fuel from the outlet port, may need to re-seal that fitting...

It's WAY too quiet.. I mean.. literally, almost silent.

Wow, That much front drop on just the keys. I'm only 1" lower in the front and I have mo more camber adjustment for my alignment. That's why I ordered my 2" spindles yesterday.

Good ideas and fab work though. Any pics of how you modded the hangers?

only problem is now there isn't much tension on the bars to give you any sort of comfort ride. Also you're prob riding ON the bumpstops. As for the camber in teh front you cna get high alignment adjusters from DJM that will give you more room to move the uppers out.

I cut the bumpstops...

How much are those adjusters... thinking those would be a good idea! :thumb:

It rides decent considering... I figured it would get worse with yesterdays modifications, but it feels about the same (back actually feels better after the hanger mod??). Front is ... ok.... I also need shocks, 105k miles on original shocks

Not sure i think around 60 bucks or so. yea i cut the bump stops on mine when i first lowered it. Rode like a brick shit house though. That's why i got rid of the drop keys. I've got DJM 6" drop arms in it now.

Just called djm. $20 But, he said these would do nothing to take care of mt negative camber. He said they do not give you any more adjustmnet

its definitaly cool, but it seems like a lot of work considering drop keys are only 100 bucks or so, and its easier to go back up too

I can't make $100 in hour and a half of work though :)

im gonna call jdm and ask someone also...for giggles

Interested to hear the results, because that doesn't make any sense?
Can we get longer upper control arms?
