Ok i know this is a duramax forum but i didnt want to join another forum. I have the chance to buy a 12v and 24v engine. The 12v is good but missing a turbo and inj. pump the 24v needs bored and crank turned missing turbo and inj. pump. Im not very familiar with cummins prices so anybody know what these engines are worth thanks

Missing those things on the 12v I wouldnt give more then a 1000$ as long as the rest is good and its not high mileage. and the 24v I wouldnt even buy Injectors are 600-800$ and a pump is a 1000$. you can usually find thos ein good running shaped complete for 2500 and you will have quite a bit into that by the time you get that 24V going.

The pumps are missing because they're worth more than the engines :roflmao:

As said, maybe $1000 on a 12v long block in good shape. I'd give scrap price for a 24v in that kind of condition.

What model is the 24v? If its one of the rare p-pump ones get it. Those are the most sought after ones as they have no electronics....

X2 latest factory one in a pickup I've seen or heard of was a 98 and it was definitely a p pump 12v. Unless he's talking about a medium duty 5.9? Maybe that exists in factory form as a p-pump 24v?

i think it was the 98.5 model year. It did not last long (6 months?) before they went to the VE pump. So if you find one already setup for the P-pump its a plus.

He said the pump was gone so wtf does it matter.

That being said, cummins did build a vp44/12v engine. Never seen a 24v with a p7100 from the factory.

I know this is apples to oranges but I think some 8.3L cummins in magnum cases were p-pump 24 valves

Um no. The 98.5 was a 12v. The VE was before the p7100. ;) The VP44 is what is on the 24v.
This guy is right. Except 98.5 was when im pretty sure they went to the vp44. The Ve pump was pre 94 and were turds lol. They had p7100 after and they were all mechanical iirc these are the ones most people are after. A lot of people changed the vp44s to p pumps because the 44s had their limits. The 44s were mechanical and electronic. Im pretty sure 04.5 they switched to cp3.

my buddy who is a HUGE dodge nut says the new engine with a P pump is the cats meow cause it takes away the elec stuff and you can make a shit load of HP, he helped his buddy with the same project and they made a awesome truck, but that is all coming from a dodge guy

03 + is common rail. Early V.e. trucks are pigs in stock form but there's room to get 400 whp out of them I'm pretty sure with the right air and injectors. Vp44s will make around 500 whp with bigger injectors and more air. The sky is the limit with the p7100 though. If you can put up with the smoke.

My Nephew is a Dodge guy. Dodge did make a P-Pump 24v for 1/2 model year. It's either the 98 or 98.5 and they were hard to find. From there they went to the 44 which had issues. If the supply pressure dropped below 4 psi (IIRC) then the 44 pump would loose its cooling ability and heat would cause pump failure.

I don't believe that. Not to be an azz, but get the ESN I bet quickserve says otherwise. You can make a p7100 conversion look factory.

Wrong. they went to a Vp44 in the middle of 98 and its a 24v Ive worked on them they did not make a p7100 24v from the factory.
