Would there be any benefit at all to flipping the stock intercooler over to make the inlet/outlet at the top of the engine bay? Would it help that the tube would be much shorter and straighter? Or would the intercooler not work as efficiently? I've searched several times but haven't found anyone that's done this. It seems like it'd be pretty simple for the driveway fabricator to do if it's even worth it.

I believe the tubes are at the bottom because heat rises. Therefore the optimum "cooler" air would be drawn from the bottom.

That makes sense. But if the designers were worried about the heat rising issue, wouldn't the inlet/outlet be at the top/bottom with the air paths vertical instead of horizontal? My thinking was that if it was pressurized by the turbo it would distribute itself evenly throughout the intercooler via the end tanks. Am I completely off base here? I'm just throwing ideas around after looking up intercoolers for about an hour and finding some with the inlet/outlet at the top.
