Sorry for the dup post, I posted this at the "Place" and now that I have found out where everybody has gone I figured I'd post here as well.

Still in the thinking stages here. Can you guys provide some info on what it takes to crate the Allison and freight ship it out?? I'm toying with just sending out my trans to Mike L and having him work his magic. We will be visiting my folks in Vegas this xmas and his shop would be within reach if we drove, but driving through the mountains in a storm sux rocks I'd rather just fly. I rebuilt the auto trans in my brothers chrysler sebring a few years ago, but not sure if I can really tackle this one on my own. Maybe just intimidated is all?? Sound familiar to anyone??

I have not contacted Mike L as of yet as I don't want to waste his time until I figure out what I want to do...then I can talk about the specifics.

Anyway, to make a long post longer, back to the question. What does it take to crate the Allison, who do you ship through, do they pick it up, etc??

Talk to Tyler rust(tylerrustlb7) and jeff hunt(wikdlmm) both of them shipped their trans off. Not to mike l but should be the same basic deal.

when I got my tranny shipped to me from cali to maine with yellow frieght . The seller used the roll metal with holes in it . they took 20" or so pieces and bolted one end to all 4 corners then used sheet rock screws ( 4 or 5 )to the pallet . they kept the converter installed and put a piece accross bell housing with bolts on each side .

Stick it on a pallet and then make 4 angle brackets and bolt them from the bottom of Alli through the pallet.

Woah i dont know why but I thought someone from San angelo started this thread thats why I suggested you talk to tyler and Jeff. Disregard my advice.

Hope you get your trans shipped off to Mike problem free.

I spoke with Mike a few months back about doing this, but I don't want to wait a few weeks without my truck as it's my DD, and he had no cores.

Mike, do you have any cores now, and what about turn around time if not?

This doesn't seem like a bad idea since shipping isn't to bad.

8100 you make a good point. My truck is my daily driver as well and depending on turn around time it may make car pooling with the wife everyday a bit too, uhh...well you know.

Mike wanted me to give him a call back this morning so he can get my address and stuff and make some calls and see what rates he can get. I'll give him some extra time before I call in case it was a late night last night with Casper.

Better to figure all this out before hand so I can make the best decision. The wife thinks I should just rebuild it myself, but I think she gives me too much credit sometimes....I just don't want to screw it up and have it cost more down the line.
