I had a driver call me and tell me the truck was running rough. I had him drive it home so I could see what was going on. Opened the hood and there was oil over a lot of the passenger side engine compartment. Checked oil level and it was fine. I drove it to the dealer ship and had the codes checked. Told me it was P 2063, P 2066, P 2069, and P 2072. Cylinder 1 2 3 and 4. Contribution fault on all. Pulled the number 1 injector and did a compression test. Low or no compression. Had them scope the cylinder and found a cracked piston. My question is this. Do I have 4 cracked pistons? And what could have caused this one to crack. I have a basic understanding about diesel engines but I'm no mechanic. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The truck is a 2011 LML with 172,000 miles on it.

Hot shot work. Haul mostly oil field equipment. South Louisiana mostly some in Texas. Loads usually average about 7000 lbs.

With 172k on it I would replace the pistons with some of Fingers ovals or at least Mahle race cast... Is the truck deleted and tuned?

Sad fact is the D-max has weaker pistons in the later models, 06 and up.

Yes I had the DEF and the EGR deleted. Only had a 50 hp tune done because that was the lowest they could do. Truck has plenty power for what I haul with it. I don't need massive horse power. Just enough to make a living. What I'm trying to find out now is what caused the piston to crack and if it is just one piston should I change just one or just get a bare long block and go from there?
