What would everyone recommend for a cp3 replacement. Would I be better off doing a stock LBZ pump or would I be better off with going with say the II 42% over pump or the Fleece CP3K pump? Truck may see 650 hp if that much. I have a bad CP3 I'm about to remove is why I ask.

Can you just use an lb7/lly pump and put an lbz regulator in it to make it an lbz pump? Or are the pumps different in general?

I really hadn't heard much about the problems. From my understanding the lbs pump has a higher flow rate to support higher he and rpms. I could be wrong tho.

LBZ pump has a longer stroke, for one. Def the better choice if you're buying a new one anyhow.

According to Shane at Motorsport Diesel (formerly Wicked Diesels) the bore and stroke on the CP3 is the same on all Duramax LB7, LLY, LBZ, & LMM and Cummins 5.9 & 6.7 engines.

BTW, he makes a great CP3 pump and has awesome customer service. Definitely gets my vote.

Well he would be a guy that would know. If you look at the back of one vs. Lb7(or LLY) pump, they have a lot taller body. I was under impression this is for the longer stroke?

Any modded CP3 that has had the fuel pressure regulator messed with is going to be prone to surging & loping and some uncontrollable hiccups that simply cant be tuned out. Oh... and they don't offer enough of a gain if any to have to put a bunch of extra effort into tuning around it. Pumps that displace 3x the amount of volume use regulators with the same orifice size found on the CP3.

The Fleece CP3K gets remedied for the throttling over 3000 RPM, which lets the pump to deliver fuel at maximum potential and full RPMs. This is the biggest gain with a stock displacement modded pump. Allowing a truck to keep making power over 3000RPM rather than falling away. Best part is it drives, responds, and is controlled just like a stock unit.
