CP3 Question

I've been doing some research on CP3 pumps and have a few questions. It seems the general consensus is a stock CP3 is good to a little over 600 hp if it is healthy. However, some people with bigger turbos or twin set ups are seeing much higher numbers both on the dyno and using ET Calculator. So which is accurate? I am looking at running a bigger turbo and wondering if i can get by with my stock CP3 for a while. My CP3 only has 62,000 miles on it and got a new LB7 regulator last year. I don't know what my current tune PW is but the tune is set for the Stealth 64 and 30 overs. It is demanding 23.2K at WOT and it is holding 22.8K so it seems to be pretty healthy. Thanks for any input to clarify this for me.

Need a lift pump. With bigger sticks you need twin stock or modded/stroker pumps.

You can run a bigger turbo, to a point. You won't get to use it to its full potential but I wouldn't push too hard on a stock bottom end anyway. I'm assuming stock motor?

How big do you want to go?

I already have a lift pump and pretty much all supporting mods, I just didn't want to list it all in a sig. My goal is 11s in street trim on 285/75/16s. The Stealth runs really good, but I just don't think it will get me there. The leading candidates right now are of the 66mm variety. Motor is stock other than ARP head studs. I know i'm playing with fire, if it breaks, it breaks.

I can't see your Sig anyway so that wouldn't help.

Built Trans?

11s on a stock bottom end is going to be tough. Maybe with a big single. Even if you succeed it won't be for long. The cp3 will be struggling for sure. Either run a modded pump or twin.

I went 7.41@92-93mph in the 1/8 with a stock cp3, 40% Inj, and 475/stock setup. Probably weighed around 6,500-6,600#'s. Was cutting low 1.5x 60'. Buddy funk went 7.16@xxx with a stock Cp3 and 60% with a single 475 and some spray. He was cutting high 1.4x 60' too. Weighed in around 6,200-6,300ish#'s. Have to look up on calculator what that is for HP

Those are mid-11 runs. At 6600 to run an 11.5 it puts you at 711 to the wheels.

OP what's your race weight?

1.4s? Shit, cheaters?

Funks and his truck have always been 60' kings. He sets it up right and knows how to leave. Hell those times for him was with a 1057 converter and no lock up box.

just do twin Stock cp3's. reliability and enough fuel to destroy a bit motor. plus cost close to what a good quality modified cp3 goes for

Yeah it's got a built trans, lock up switch , pisk, sleeves, spring clamps, rancho 9000s, manifolds, up pipes, y bridge, boost tubes, down pipe, turbo horn, intake, lift pump, 30 oves, stealth 64. I've never weighed the truck but I'm guessing around 6600.

30% will get you there, just need the air and proper tuning to do it.

I'd recommend stepping up to a 60% nozzle though. Tuning will be more reliable and safer in the long run. Turbo wise, a 68/87/.9 or 72/87/.9 will be enough air to reach your goals as well. Either a 10mm single pump or duals with stock pumps will be plenty to get into the 11's too. But really I don't think you need all that.

11's stock motor is a big risk you must be willing to take. It can be done. I know of a local truck running 11.8's on 60% with a 66mm (gated) with an exergy sportsman pump. I wouldn't do an s300 either, with that amount of fuel, you'll need to gate it for it to last. s400 is more durable when throwing down power :thumb:

x2 for stock pumps.

Both of my stock pumps on my race truck had 200k+ on them and held rail just fine, enough for 10.5's.

Yeah two lbz pumps. That 64 won't get you there though. You'll probably be choking it mid 600s.

A big single would be the best shot to get it to live. Also, I would lose the clamps for actual bars.

Caltracs are on my to do list but likely after the power mods. The leading candidate for my turbo is the RCD 66/74. I know of a local truck with this turbo 100 overs and a stroker pump that went 11.75 at a similar weight on 285/75/16s without a lock up box. Another local truck made 703 on DuramaxTuners dyno with it 45 overs and a stroker pump. Both trucks were stock engine trucks. They impressed me. Just trying to decide if i do turbo or cp3 first. Duramax tuner told me the stealth will max at 620.

doesnt really matter which you do first if you are trying to do. You need more air and a dual cp3 kit. Not sure how far 30% injectors will support though

Twin the 64 with a S480 size charger will have enough air for ~900-1000hp.
Dual stock cp3s
I still remember mcrat pulling ~800rwhp on stock injectors... Don't recommend pulse width that big.. Lol
30% would definitely get mid upper 600 easy..
Get you air and fuel supply up to par then get bigger injectors if needed

I'm thinking if i go forward it will be dual fuelers and a RCD 66/74 and see how long it lasts. When i end up with curved rods, switch to 100 overs while its apart. Another part of me is saying i don't want to spend another 20K on the truck so maybe i should just leave the stock cp3 and stealth...
