Had my dad load new tune for my 2cp3s tonight and while taking the truck to let the tranny relearn he heard a pop sound, got out and look and fuel was all over the road. Got home and saw that a plug on the side of the cp3 had blew out causing fuel to just pump out. Motor was turning 3,000 rpm,40lbs of boost when this happen. any ideas on if i can get the plug and snap ring form gm? If not i will just take the other cp3 from the other motor i have.

Maybe check with wicked diesel , or industrial injection . see if they have a junk one they could sell parts off of . or they might direct you were to find one .

I was going to say that its not a held with a snap ring, Off the top of my head I think the plug is 20mm area I have a few but away from home.if you can measure the hole.and then have the dealer look up freeze plugs for your heads the that go in the rear.Best bet would be to swap pumps.not sure what is behind that plug something might of came out.

I don't think there is anything behind that plug. IIRC when we tore the one down at Pat's shop last year, it is just an open cavity that is pressurized from the little gear pump on the back of the CP3.

I may be wrong though-I am just going by memory.

I would check the low pressure return line from the pump and make sure it isn't plugged. Not sure why it would pressure up enough to blow the plug out though-very strange.

We had a dodge buddy that had this happen to his truck and He talked to Industrial Injection and they told him the pump was junk.

I hope this is not your case though Wade.

Me and my buddy that works at the dealership both think the pump is junked since he said something is messed up inside the pump for it to build pressure on the return side and blow the plug out.Gonna swap pumps off of the other motor i got. Now i get to tear a cp3 apart to see what the inside of them look like.

Just a tip when disassembling the pump, to get the shaft out of the pump, you need to hold all of the plungers up off of the shaft. This isn't easy as you are going against a spring but it can be done.;)

Well i had my dad take the cp3 off the truck and he got the one off of the other motor i got. Now the first pic is of the cp3 that blew the plug out,he actually find the plug. It looks like someone took a chisel to the part of the plug that goes in the pump. The second pic is of the cp3 off of my other motor. Now does anyone have a clue what the lugnut with a bolt thru it thing is? Other pump didnt have one of these. 3rd pic is of the bad cp3 showing were the lugnut with the bolt thru it should be.

So i take it i can take the spacer out?Or leave it in so it will keep that plug from coming out. I will just get a longer bolt to go through for the ppe bracket if thats the case
