Ok so I have been calculating all that I want to do with my truck and have ran into a couple questions that I need some help with. So first off I defiantly plan on an Airdog lift pump, EFI tune, and LBZ mouth piece and a different intake. My truck currently has 147k on it and that might not be accurate since the tires are over sized and the spedo is off and I don't know how long it has been this way and I have a feeling that the truck was not properly taken care of before I got my hands on it. So my questions are should I fork up the money and get a built transmission and an aftermarket turbo. I am not going for a race or pulling truck. I just want something that is fun to drive but most of all reliable. The reason I'm debating on the trans and turbo is it would be comforting for a fresh start on the both of them and I want the freedom to do a more aggressive tune in the future.

Leave it stock if you need reliable.

I'm not totally sure what was meant by this. A lift pump, lbz mouth piece, and a mild efi tune with certain codes and actions disabled will do nothing but help the truck. But I do agree the more you turn up the power and beat on it the less reliable it becomes.

I dont want to blow money on something that is unnecessary. But I hear a lot of stories about the allison going into limp mode and ruining clutches even on mild tunes. I don't want to run into that problem

Once you get into hot tunes and aftermarket turbos then you will start chasing weak points. Airdog, trans safe efi tunes, egr blocker and mouth piece would be a good mods.

The harder you beat on it the quicker you'll break it. That's really what it boils down to. If you get trans safe tunes from a pro it'll be happy for a long time. A good habit I got into being I still have a stock trans and a fairly hot efi tune
is downshift from od manually instead of letting the trans do it and locking out od when you want to beat on it. Just my personal habit, I feel it's helpful since 5th gear is a weak point.

What is considered "stock trans safe" tune numbers? I talked to Dustin and I believe he said that his stock safe tunes were under 100hp added. Dont quote me on that its been a couple months since I talked to him but is that considered safe?

OD won't really like 100rwhp over stock but if you don't hammer on it from every stop yes. From what I can gather a stock trans doesn't really like anything over about 50rwhp over stock in the OD shift/downshift

All depends how you drive and miles on the truck. I was always told 90hp on a 5 speed and 120 on a 6. But if someone beats on a truck hard or it has 300000 miles it will not last.

If there is any voice in your head saying you wanna go fast... Get a built trans.

You can get safe efi tunes, but I wouldn't want anything more than 100hp if I was trying to be nice to my trans. I started with very mild tuning, but eventually got a hot tune on my dsp5 "just in case I need the power" and limped my trans for the first time on the drive home.

If you just want a little more power, get efi or even a tuner, I saw a ppe economy somewhere the other day for $300. I'd add an egr blocker plate and re routing the Pcv to your list
