So I dropped an LLY in an 03 truck this week. Swapped the whole harness, NSBU, Air box and duct (thanks to SHOTZY), and an ECM with a tow tune from Tony at Ridge Runner. It fired right up! Then it started a light knock that went away quick. This was followed by a loud, intermittent screech. This was followed by lots of blow by and knocking. My guess is it has a cracked piston and a wist pin knocking. The Turbo was missing the bolt from the oil line on top, so I'm thinking the screech is a bad bearing in the turbo. I checked the balance rates with my EFI scan and only one was in spec. One cylinder was over 9! Lots of 5s and 6s. Not good. I was all stoked since I pulled this off in 9 hours. It was another 4-5 hours r&ring the huge winch bumper (farm truck) and pressure washing it to find the engine LOL.

So what do you guys think? Could it be something else?

Bum engine for sure. I would prefer to see an engine run before I buy it. This one was on a pallet in the bed when they dropped it off. I figured with all the knowledge here I'd get some input on weather my thoughts were on the right track or not. Tell me what you guys think.

So, for shit's n' giggles I tried to start it again today. It fired right up! And ran like shit. Drove it up to my shop door and it stalled. The starter would not turn it. After sitting five minutes, it started again. WTF! It has 60 Lbls at idle, no CEL. Anyway, the possessed bitch is on the floor now. Putting another engine in when it gets here. I'd love to tear it down and see WTF is going on in there.

Thanks dude:thumb: It's hard not to stay determined on this one, I get to keep the core (LB7 with bad injectors) as part of the payment, and I already picked up an alli and reared for the next project.

HaHaHa...The New engine is here and I took off at lunch to check it out, it's a 04 LB7 LOL talk about going full circle. Apparently the original yard didn't have another LLY, just an LBZ, so they refunded the money and he bought this engine from a local yard. The funny thing is that this engine came out of a truck a friend of his owned and I know the truck wasn't hit up front since I pulled parts off of it a few weeks ago. Small world. Has 80K on it with new injectors @ 72K. He got a hell of a deal on this engine, good enough that he'll basically be out the cost of two oil changes. :cool2:

BTW, I just walked in after the test drive, nice and smooth running. Great balance rates and everything. Something that worked out good, is with these two engines, I got a bunch of little odds and ends.

Good to hear it all worked out. I sure hope they dont try to resell that first engine to someone else.
