friend of mine says he never limped his truck but any shifts above 3rd he said they lag or slip or just dont feel right. anyone have an idea????

If it is stalling at high rpm when it should shift sounds like it is running out of fuel. Change the fuel filter and report back if that fixes it. If not then one needs to know the fuel rail pressure and see if it is falling off. If so and new filter does not help then maybe needs the shim kit for the fuel regulator. But quick thing is change fuel filter no matter if it has been on a few thousand miles.

he changed all the filters even the tranny ones and fluids he had a six gun on it for a while and ran it pretty hard but said he never limped it thats why i thought it might be the converter???

No idea without running some test with a Tech II or EFILive Flashscan II.
Have your friend put it in tow/haul. From 2nd on up there is not to be more than 200rpm difference between shifts. If more than I would start to lean towards converter.

So you changed fuel filter. Have you actually changed it since I posted #2 post?
If not do a fuel filter change again and try it out.
If no difference then your going to need to find someone either a good diesel mechanic on Duramax or goto GM service center for check out with some diagnostic scanning tools. I hate to guess and waste ones money.

The ECM/TCM may be pulling power because they sense Alli no holding the power. Next step is a limp.

i told him last night brian he is going to change it again just to be sure. thanks
thanks mike ill tell him that i know he did run it hard when he had his speed loader from banks.im guessing that would mean rebuild time mike???
