Corroded caliper slide pin & cracked dust boot...

Replaced rear pads and rotors today with Napa ultra premium parts. Passenger side caliper slide pin was corroded & dust boot was cracked.

With new pads and rotors already installed & bedded, I still need to replace the slide pin & boot.

Anything special to replacing these dust boots? Are they pressed in or what?

What is the best silicone based grease for the slide pins?

Thanks.

Check out rock auto and replace all of them while you are there. A deep well socket and a few bumps with a hammer will get them pressed in.

Caliper pistons work fine. I'm talking about the caliper slide pins and the dust boot which is attached to the caliper bracket.

What do you think makes the caliper move back and forth? Answer: The slides. I played that game before. Works fine for a few weeks than starts sticking again. Now if I see any corrosion at all, the caliper gets replaced. If it doesnt move freely by hand, its junk.

The boots are the same but i am unsure of the pins. As long as you clean the bore well and dry any solvent with compressed air the will be fine. Boots should be replaced at every brake job if you want the grease to stay.

Carlson 16118 is the boot kit for one axle. Amazon or rock auto sell them cheep.
