Mods put this in the right place if its not! Lol. But anyways, two nights ago I got bit by a copperhead snake on the foot. Went to the doctor and they didn't tell me anything. Sat there for four hours then said your good to go! It wasn't swollen then and just looked like thisImageUploadedByTapatalk1375418820.566980.jpg
Now after 40 hours it looks like this!! My foot is huge. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375418861.866296.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1375418869.966548.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1375418877.466266.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1375418907.450027.jpg
Any idea on if I should go to another doctor? I've called a few others and they don't know what to do pretty much and others say I have to come in before they can tell me anything. It doesn't hurt just swollen. This is why I hate hospitals. Second time ever to the ER and both where pointless trips. Lucky I got bit and not my wife though. A hour before she had this one go right over her foot.

Killed it then I guess I stepped on the one that bit me, it was a baby that got me.

I thought for sure they would've done something. I know if it's not treated properly it could be a miserable sob!

The baby's have some of the strongest venom... I grew up in Idaho on a ranch, we killed Diamond backs buy the 100's every year in the hayfields and around the houses. My good Friend that I grew up with got bit last year and it F-ed him up. Tons of antivenom shots and sick as hell for several weeks. I thought the Copperhead had more potent venom than the Diamond Back? Anywho I would check on getting the antivenom shots. I would rather get them and not need them... Good luck.

EDIT: Sounds like the antivenin is only good if giving within an hour of the bite... Also their venom isn't as potent as a Rattler, so that's good. Sounds like you need to keep a close eye on the bite though.

Also, cut the head off of the snake and bury it. Rattlers can bite even when there dead for quite some time, not sure with a copperhead but no reason to chance it.... We did this to prevent the dogs from getting bit playing with the dead snakes. Kind of morbid but that's life on the ranch lol.

The babies seem worse because they don't meter their venom, they just give you all they've got where as the adults can effectively meter their venom as to keep from going dry (out of venom). At least that's what I've been told.

Are you taking Benedryl to prevent allegic reactions? Seems like the doctor would have at least advised you to use it and what to put on it to control swelling (hot/cold compresses).

I read that it doesn't work like it would on dogs for a human. I haven't taken anything except Tylenol the first night, but this morning the swelling has gone down I kept it elevated all night.

Well I didn't even know I got bit by one until I shined the light on it. I thought it was a grasshopper kicking off me! Lol. Then shined the light down and saw it slither off. It didn't start hurting until about 40 minutes or so. It just felt like a wasp sting to me, and only felt like that for about 5 hours or so. I went to sleep fine and when I woke up it was just a little sore ,like a twisted ankle I guess you could say, only if I hit it on something or out pressure on it.

Damn I hate snakes we have rattlers out here and hunting Elk in September usually is in Rattlesnake territory. My hearing isn't the best so I get surprised from time to time. Just hope I don't wind up get hit one of these days...... Get well soon on the bite. What were you doing walking around in dark near snakes?

I would go to either your regular doctor or back to the hospital and get antibiotics. Even if you have to show your ass a little. Snake bites get infected super easy. I've had quite a bit of experience with dogs and snake bites, all we've ever done is antibiotic pills for a couple weeks. Just my .02

I think I'm just gonna lay off of it for the day and see what it does, I think I aggravated it yesterday because I was up moving around. It looks better now. I just hate sitting still. Lol
