i was blessed with the task of changing the waterpump in my 02 yesterday, what a biotch! anyways i drained the coolant when i started the job, and reused it when i9 finished. anyways i would like to flush the whole cooling system and was thinking of trying a different coolant besides dexcool, what do you guys think?

Got Honey?
anecdotally, yes. Ford was so concerned about dexcool (they tested it for their own needs originally when sourcing OAT's) that they printed "NO DEXCOOL" on the cap.

Gold is proven to have superior anti-cavitation properties. FWIW

This information is cursory, and is based on conversation with a certain Ford Program Manager.

I duuno, you have to collect information from reliable sources, then make your own decision, including warranty cons. I care about my truck, not the warranty. :)

I'm about to do this myself. Looks like this saturday i'll be doing my water pump.
make sure you have something to block the flywheel so you can undo and tighten the crank balancer bolt (270 ft lbs tq) i used the starter to bump it loose, but you need to take your starter out and remove one of your converter bolts and use a longer bolt with a socket or a spacer, if you dont have the kent moore tool (pat's way of doing it, and the way i did it). also be prepared to buy a starter if the little ign wire stud breaks off the starter solenoid(damn michigan winters:() i hope everything goes well for ya.

I hope I dont have to replace the starter. How long did it take you? How many gallons do our trucks hold anyway?
