Converter for DD / Race?

I'll give the details of the truck and what it currently has first.

02 Chevy 2500. 30% over injectors, modded lbz pump (fleece), 63mm turbo, intake & exhaust, suncoast stage 5 trans, believe stock stall suncoast triple disc converter, efi, and other supporting mods.

It is my DD, but I'm planning on racing it more and would like something to hold up to the abuse due to my current converter slipping. We hooked it up to a scan gauge and it shows bad converter slip. We have a dealer account with xdp so prefer to get it from them, but if those won't do...I'm not stuck. I've looked at the 1057 and I've been considering the 1058 but I'd like input from you guys who have run these and know considerably more than myself.

Thank you!

I would call Mike and Evan both and see what would be best for you. I have the Limitless TC in my LMM with a 68mm VVT, I'm not sure how that converter will play with your turbo though.

I'd call those guys, they have better offerings than what xdp will.

What sort of 63mm turbo? If you have a SunCoast triple disc converter that is slipping, I would look more into that before I swapped in another one. That converter shouldn't be slipping at your power level unless something else is going on to cause it.

Thats a good idea also. I'm not the original owner who put the converter in. But know it is a suncoast triple. It's a fleece cheetah. I should be around 600 hp, but like you said it still probably shouldnt be slipping.

Hook up a Tech 2 and see what the converter is actually doing before you start throwing money at it.

We have and its definitely slipping. I forget what technical term my buddy used but when doing 70mph and giving it 75% or more throttle it goes from ~97% to ~20%.

You could be losing command. Lock it manualy and see if you can break it loose. Rare to have a SC converter slip.

Going from 97% to 20% sounds like you're talking about duty cycle on the converter solenoid.

With a Tech 2.

Ok thank you. I dont have one and the one my friend has is a cornwell scanner, not a tech 2. Would it be more beneficial to get a tech 2 or the allilocker?

That is it. That's what we have seen to diagnose as slipping. I don't know enough about it to validate that diagnosis. That's why I'm asking you fellas. Thank you.

If converter clutch duty cycle is dropping to 20%, that would be the cause of the slipping. You need to figure out why it is dropping.

It sounds like the converter is being told to unlock by the TCM. I have mine setup that way to light my charger, maybe the previous owner did something similar on your truck?

You could get someone with EFILive to flash a stock TCM tune in for you. Most guys I know have a zillion spare TCM licenses, so they might even do it free :thumb: Or get someone to read it out, then post it here and we can peek at it, and that won't cost anything. Maybe buy the guy with EFILive lunch for his trouble, I suppose.

I posted before reading this. That's a great idea actually. Saves a lot of money too lol

I'm pretty sure my converter is slipping now. In manual lockup it still slips. Engine revs, smoke out the wazzoo, not going any faster. I went and bought & installed Ben's lockup box. Auto and Lock is slips. Think my only option now waiting to hear back from Evan @ limitless to order a converter. I was even gonna race the truck at the track for the first time. Was hoping for 7.9 in the 1/8.
