I know there are a few computer gurus on here, so I was hoping maybe someone can help me out. I have a desktop that a guy I used to work with helped me build about 5 years ago. It isn't much of anything now, but at the time it was a pretty good computer. Not top of the line, but it was a pretty decent gaming machine. Anyway, I had it in storage for about a year and a half, and it wouldn't boot up again when I first plugged it in. I let it sit overnight, and it booted up the next morning. I used it every now and then, and it always started up no problem. Then I tried to turn it on about two weeks ago, and it won't even show the boot up screen. It just beeps at me. About once every 2 or 3 seconds it will beep. Anyone have any idea what is wrong or what I should check?

did you pull the case and make sure everything was all plugged in?

I would do that, unplug all the wires and plug em back in.

do the fans spin up and can you hear the hard drives?

A bunch of beeps can actually tell you something. Do an internet search on the model of computer (or mobo) and looks for BIOS beeps.

Some older ones won't boot without the round plug type keyboard connected. The bios doesn't see USB keyboards.

Sometimes the bios battery goes bad, but normally it will still go the bios screen.

If it has more than one plugin for the VGA monitor plug, try the other one.

All the fans turn on. I did open the case to make sure everything is plugged in. The BIOS is not coming up. I haven't changed anything with the keyboard or mouse. I would try changing where the monitor is plugged in but the other plug on the video card is a different style connector. The mother board is made by BFG Tech, but I can't find a model number anywhere.

90% of the time when this happens, there is a problem with the memory. Take all the memory modules out (ground yourself by touching the case first). Then, clean the sockets with compressed air (from a can, air compressor air usually has oil). Clean the modules too. Finally (ground yourself again, to be safe) put the modules back in tightly. They should "click" into place.

Give it another try and see. If it still doesn't boot, take all the modules out, and put only one in. Choose one at random. If that doesn't work, try a different one. (You are testing to see if a module was bad). Hopefully that will get you going!

Yeah, I actually just disconnected everything and pulled the motherboard out. I pulled the memory and processor and put it all back in and reconnected everything. It starts up now. Don't know what was wrong, but thanks for the suggestions.
