So I was just wondering if coilovers were an option for our trucks that are close to stock ride heigth, and would they be good choice for dd/ drag racing?
I know next to nothin about suspension so what are the benefits and drawbacks of coilovers?

Maybe a stupid question but I am curious.Would it be as simple as pulling off the torsion bars and putting the coil overs in the stock shock location?

The CV shafts are in the way, you might have to have custom upper and lower A-arms built to mount the coil overs and clear the CV. The new 08+ chev 1/2 tons have a coil over strut with 4wd.......If you are running 2wd...even easier

well some people run the bilstein air shocks in the front w/o a problem. but i don't think conventional coil overs will be enough to hold the suspenion w/o the t-bars.

i think something like a Air ride tech Shockwave would be the shit for racing. you can adjust the dampening on them and your ride height. not to mention they handle like a sports car. AND you can run them w/o your t-bars. the down side... they are like a grand for the pair.

Would conventional coilovers be possible if the tbars were kept in place? Does anyone make an offroad coilover for HD applications like our trucks?

Those shockwaves are cool but damnn $1000 is alot of cash for two shocks.

I know coilovers are supposed to get rid of the tbars so that first question may sound a little stupid, could the tbars just be kept in place as added support without interfering with how the coilovers would perform

I would think so, i would maybe just consider a lighter T-bar cause it might ride a little stiff Does anyone make an offroad coilover for HD applications like our trucks? off hand the only ones i know of are designed for lifted apps

Which companies make some coilovers that you would think would perform well? Are half ton tbars alot lighter than 3/4 ton tbars? Would that work with the right coilover setup?

I really like those shockwaves though so i may just save up for those

to be honest never really looked into any. maybe like comp engineering. yea the 1/2 bars have a different weight rating on them so just putting them on would lower the truck a bit. i think it would work ok.

i have 1 brand new shockwave if you're interested :D

QA1 http://qa1.thomasnet.com/viewitems/...uble-adjustable-shocks?&plpver=1001&forward=1

iirc length of the stock in a stock hiegth is ~15.5" extened and ~10" compressed
with that QA1 has three setup a person could make work single adj shock part #
DR4855 10.125-14" (10" spring) ride hieght 11 1/2 in. - 12 1/2 in
DR4955 11.125-15" (10" spring) ride hieght 12 1/2 in. - 13 1/4 in
DR5855 11.625-17" (12" spring) ride height 13 1/4 in. - 14 1/2 in.
with ~1800-2000lb a corner on the front need some heavy springs...

personaly i would lean toward the 3rd on with a 12" 600lb spring 3.5" comrpession will hold ~2,000lb

both 10" spring you could be below recomend ride height... and you can get 650lb springs.. still need to compress it 3" not to say it cant be done... just need more thought to it ;)

springs are rated by how much weight it take to compress them 1" a 600lb spring taske 600lb to compress it 1" 1200lb will comrpess it 2" 1800lb=3" etc

most coil overs run a eye type top mount vs a stud top mount on a stock application.
hope that helps:)

Were those specs you stated for single adjustable shocks

I broke a shock mount off an a arm so I'd be a little wary of all the weight on it with just coilovers and no torsion bars.

IMOP, 600lbs spring is WAY too light. your gunna need a much stiffer spring than that on a short shock to keep coilbind at bay.
