I'm sure it was only a matter of time but this has been all over the news lately, not sure if anyone has seen it. Groups of "far-right conservatives" who modify their trucks to spew black smoke everywhere. Not sure the two are related, and there is a lot of mis-information in the articles I have seen, but it is definitely not good publicity nonetheless.

Yep been seeing it myself. I have this one kid who all he wants is for his 99 cummins to roll coal I thought I had him talked out of it and the other day he texted me and said "I know it sounds stupid but thats what I want. I want it to make stupid amounts of smoke"

It's all a lot of kids in my town care about in my town. I frequently get asked "how much does your truck smoke?" I'll admit I used to like it too. and while the tune that I've been running for the past several months isn't the cleanest out there, I have been working on it when I have time to clean it up I can't wait to have it smoke free, fast, and be able to say I tuned it myself.

People on facebook are refusing to admit that the few idiots who roll coal will ruin the whole sport for the rest of enthusiasts.

Gah, so annoying.

I know for sure that some larger areas have no smoke ordinance, I remember talking to a couple guys from tulsa that said it was a automatic 100 fine for msmoking if they were caught.

Sad it's come to this. Boneheads out there are ruining a good thing. I got my truck washed at a popular full service wash a couple weeks ago and one of the wipe down guys asked me if my truck smoked....I told him yes but only when on an aggressive tune. He asked if I would "smoke them out" on my way out and I said no and explained that doing so gives diesel Motorsports a bad name and isn't cool. He gave me the most confused look.....as if I was the crazy one.

I was approached by a writer from the Boston Globe earlier today. I wrote a clear and concise response outlining some of the myths about the diesel community and then did my best to dispel them. I hope that I didn't just throw my name out there to get dragged through the mud but I would rather try and get our side of the story out there than get rail roaded. I would rather have a horse in the race than idly stand by. I know if I didn't say something then he would message the next guy on his list and that might not be a good thing.

Ps: he messaged a few friends first but we all decided to decline comment. I changed my mind once I found out others were speaking with him and they were not exactly great advocates for the hobby.

I'd say that was a good move on your part Steve, hopefully some of these writers will take a response from an intelligent and well spoken enthusiast such as yourself into account, and not just quote "Robbie the coal roller from the local diesel shop".

I also find it a little ridiculous that they have made this into a political thing, like there is some kind of underground far right conservative group. Most of these people are clowns who probably have no idea what they are talking about.

:thumb: This sport is being ruined by a bunch of idiots and it's only getting worse. Anything positive in the media is a great thing. Hopefully he doesn't twist your words.

Once the libs set there sights on something they destroy it. And since they are currently in power like never before were screwed.

Thanks a lot to all the Dickheads out there who wouldn't listen to the rest of saying "smoke tunes aren't cool".

This won't end well.

Way to go Steve, thank you for speaking up on behalf of the non-moronic members of this industry/sport. :thumb: :)

I guess the Kelly file on Fox News just did a story on rolling coal. I missed it but recorded the next showing at midnight. I have a feeling this is going to get ugly.
