Long story short, thinking about postponing the purchase of new wheels and would like to give mine an overhaul. I have polished them with turtle wax with so/so results. I think I need to use something stronger to get the hard stuff off.

I searched with no luck, but is there a product that I can apply and let sit then pressure wash to get 99% of the gunk off then polish? or am I better off just sanding them a bit then polishing?

Are you talking about stock wheels? I think the stock ones are aluminum. If they are chrome over steel, Simichrome is always a good bet, just labor intensive. I wouldn't sand them but maybe use some 0000 steel wool or brass wool and some dish detergent. If the "gunk" is brake dust, I would use some special wheel cleaner designed to remove that stuff- and get some better brake pads.....

No they are aftermarket chrome Helos. Its part brake dust and then part tar if I had to describe it. I guess I was hoping there was some sort of chemical compound that would just eat through it. The brake dust comes off easy enough with the turtle wax

When I had chrome wheels, I would use never dull on the stubborn stuff.
