So I posted this under new members but got no response, I am hoping somebody has an answer. I recently purchased a new truck, ( 07 classic, CC, DRW, 3500) I want to buy a tuner. How can find out if it has been chipped or not? Appreciate the help!
hmmmm.....well usually if its tuned they either give you the tuner or remove it completely because the box tuners are useless if they are vin locked, meaning that they have to remove the tune from the truck in order to use the tuner on another truck.
the only sure way would be to pull the tune in it and compare it to a stock one.
plenty of vendors here that can set you up with efi live
So I was thinking about purchasing the Edge Evolution, but their instructions tell you to make sure you have the stock tune when you install. That would lead me to think that you would have to have prior knowledge, the guy that traded in my truck traded for an economy car. The dealer doesn't know what's been done. If I understand you correctly the only way you know of is to buy EFI Live? Thanks.
Did you do the exhaust work? I would imagine its stock or at least turned back to stock. Wonder if the dealer could contact the previous owner. What part of western Wash are you in?
If you want to put something on it, take it to a Chevy dealership and tell them you just bought the truck, and you want to make sure it has the correct calibration in the ECM.
or just have the dealer flash a stock tune .....if its tuned that is. they should be able to tell you.
how much power are you planning on adding? if extensive mods are in our future (bigger turbo,injectors.....) i would just buy efi live. if you just want a small safe tune the evo is nice because of the gauges and it doesnt add too much power (boring) which means your trans will live a lil bit longer.
Awesome Guys. Thanks for your advise. The Cat back system was on it when I bought it. I did the Cat delete. Other than that its stock, I think! Any idea what would be the charge for a stock pcm flash? I am about 10 miles from Tacoma. Thanks a lot!
If you bought it from a Chevy (or any GM dealership), I would think they would do it for free if you took it back to that dealership. If you didn't, I have no idea.
Floor it. Mostly ever one that has a tune on there truck will remove the speed limited, which is 98 I think. If it goes past 100 you'll know. But it still could have something small on it for towing which an older guy may not change the speed limiter, but anyone young would...
