My check engine light came on this morning and i checked it with my code reader. No codes come up. WTF?

Interesting? U check the tcm just incase its a tranny code. Should give u a generic code tho to check for tranny codes.
Say it is a tranny code, hypothetically. I was out last night checking out my new DSP5 tunes and i wasn't driving the sh#t out of it, just rolling into it a bit to check out the power. If i slipped a clutch, would the CEL come on right away? It didn't come on until this morning, after i started the truck 3 or 4 times.
We checked my truck with EFI Live today and i forget what code # it was that came up but it said #8 glow plug circuit. We cleared the code and i'll see if it comes back in the morning when the glow plugs cycle. My question now is do the regular code readers not work on our trucks or was i just doing something wrong? The second option is very possible
