I know,I know, first post. I'm the newbe... Got a Q for the vets here.
I have an 01 Duramax with no mods that is giving me fits. It was a work truck and I am trying to polish it up a bit. Ran fine yesterday, did some work on it today and now won't start. I have been searching on here for about 4hrs and not finding anything that is fixing the problem.
This is what I did:
Tore the column apart, replace blinker/wiper switch, replaced shift lever/mechanism, replaced broken gauge cluster. All parts from an 03 D-max. finished swapping parts started engine, ran for 5 seconds and shut off.
This is where I am at and what I notice:
Hit lock button on key fob-security light is solid-relays click-locks inop, hit unlock-security light is blinking-relays click-locks inop, turn key on security light is replaced by obnoxiously bright battery light. When glow plug cycle complete, battery light goes out and comes right back on. Batteries are good, all fuses are good (under hood and in cab).
This is what I have done:
I tried the 3 cycle,10 minute with cranking emergency relearn, I tried the 3 cycle, 11 minute with "on" only (no start) emergency relearn, I've tried putting my broken gauges back in-----all of this has the same result, nothing. One thing I notice when doing the relearn, the security light is not on, the battery light is on and at the 10min or 11min mark, the battery light does not go out. I don't think shift lever mechanism or blinker/wiper switch could be the problem. Do you?
I have not changed the ECM so I'm not sure a relearn is the problem? After what I have read, I am however guessing that the gauge swap will affect things with the ECM, not sure how. What the hell am I missing? Do I need to have flash done and not just a "simple" relearn? I know the security thing is a mess just from looking at it. I havn't ruled out fuel issues yet either, but my guess is the security bit is the problem. One more thing, when I purchased truck, security light was blinking when drivers door was open. Off all other times. Sorry for the long post, but thanks in ADV for the help.
