Center link material?

I have a guy that built his own center link out of 1 1/4 cold roll but I don't think that is strong enough. I think the one I have is 4140? What are they made of? I don't want to see him crash or get hurt.

Cold rolled is very stout material ... Idk what they are made of tho

cold roll is tuff but it is still mild steel.

If I were to not go SS I would want like H13 or A2 or even P20 then harden them.
