This is what happens when a large piece of steel gets shot through a hole that is too small by grinder mill powered by 500 ponies. It makes it own hole(hence all the bent steel in pic 2). I will probably be very busy with a torch and a welder for the next few days.

Is that a Duratech grinder? Rocks and dirt can go through without a lot of damage, but a chunk of steel creates a catastrophe. Those holders are costly. Sorry about that.

I have see what this can do first hand too. the one I saw was a similar grinder powered by a 3406 cat and it shot a chunk of stear out the side and it blew a hole in the engine oil filter and continued to run till it seized the engine up..

Reminds me of my old job we had scrap conveyers that took plastic bottled up to our grinders. Many bolts screws and tool pouches went through them. Always seemed to happen right after we sharpen them to.

It is actually a Terex Recycler. It has a John Deere PowerTech 12.5 liter. We recycle pallets and brush and make mulch. We also do hardwood bark for the good mulch. At that time I was grinding pallets. usually you can hear the steel start to chink inside the chamber, but that was a one shot deal! I hit all the reverse switches on the remote, but it was too late. Problem we are having is that Terex no longer makes these so most parts are not available. We had to take the bit holder in and some crescent bars in and have them copied. Three days earlier I had a 16 pound sledge go through. Fixed that in an hour.

The holders and bits look just like our Duratech. Ours works fine but requires a ton of maintenance. I didn't know Terex made one. We use ours to grind a lot of stringy poplar bark and other wood waste to make some decent looking mulch. Good luck with your repairs.
