I am going to make my first hook this weekend with my newly built motor. I was thinking of trying to get into 4than gear but I'm not sure if I can keep ontop of the charger. I have 33" tires with 3.73 gears.

Depends on the track and sled setting as well as power level, most of the guys I know that went for 4th usually broke something :) If you have the RPM and ground speed for it let her eat!!!! :woott:

depending on your power level and sled setting, 4th gear may be your best bet. Could be a fail just as easy too. If it works be ready to unlock or shiftdown quickly at the end when the sled starts bearing down on ya, or you may lose all that momentum asap!

U should be able to pull fourth. That power range and 33's should pull 4th really good depending on the track, I would think anyway....

if its a loose track pull 4th.. if its a hard track it could go eather way... what gear are you leaving in??? 3rd gear start or 2 gear start.... when we pulled 4th we started in 3rd... but 2 to 3 to 4 is to many shifts (defuels for me)

You gonna be pulling on this side of the river eric? Stanley WI will be having some big payouts tomorrow night but my truck doesnt have the safety equipment to compete. Id like to watch your truck run this summer - let me know

Eric, are you running Jess's old charger? I never did hear if you bought it from him or went a different route. If so I don't think you'll have too much trouble staying on top of it, IMO for its size it spooled very well. Hero gear and let er eat!

Edit: I think its time for a signature update there Eric ;)

I didn't know about Stanley but I would have thought about it.

Are you against changing gear size? 4:10 or 4:56 gears would help keep the rpms up to stay on top the charger

Not against it but I still drive it on the street and don't have plans of turning it into a strict puller.

What sort of RPM were you logging?

Hard to tell from the vid, but it sounded like you powered out at the end? Or did you lift a bit early?

From what I saw there I think I might be inclined to try 4th. Not sure your level of competitiveness. Some guys are reluctant to risk having a poor showing with a weak hook. Could try it at a pull that has little meaning to you. You could also wait to try it until you have a track that is poor to loose or better yet if you draw #1 spot.
