I attended the OPTIMA Batteries Ultimate Street Car Invitational and was wondering if a diesel re-powered muscle/sports car could be competitive in autocross, 0-60-0 and road racing. The event is held right after the SEMA show in November. Forty of the best street cars in the country are invited to this event and they are put through their paces in a combination of driving, handling, acceleration/braking and styling. The OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational is an event for the best-of-the-best SEMA-quality street cars in the country. Could a diesel fit in with this crowd and be competitive?

If anyone wants a better idea what the OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational is all about or wants to see the level of competition from the 2nd annual event. There will be a 1hr show on Speed TV Jan 30th at 11am EST and Jan 31st at 4pm EST with highlights from the 2009 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational.

Audi has been kicking butt with there diesel race cars, they have won the 24 hour of lemans. Don't see why it couldn't be done with american iron.

I believe it would be amazing, but only in a mid engine car where you could balance the car better.

I've thought a really worked over duramax would be amazing in a Factory Five GTM kit car.
