I am curious how many people have seen bent cam pins when they are rebuilding. I just tore a lb7 down that has about a year of abuse on it. The cam pin was bent very badly and screwed the dowel hole up. I should have taken a picture but I am sure that the motor was running like it was a tooth retarded.

Is this just an Lb7 issue or is everyone else seeing this?

I've torn down about 6 motors total. 2 of them LB7's and the rest LLY's. 1 of them had a decent cam pin still.

I believe they all will have the problem. I've recently torn down 3 LBZ's and the pins were a little deformed, more of a flat spot on one side. They are a soft pin, when you hit it with a file. We machined a 5mm slot right through the pin hole and used a short piece of key stock when we went back together with the engines. It's also easier to make an offset key for degreeing the cam in when using a piece of keystock. I wouldn't put an engine back together with the stock cam pin.

I couldn't find 5mm keystock in the hardness I wanted, so we make our own and have them heat treated to spec.

i have an 01 engine i am building right now and its cam had a severely bent pin that also distorted the hole. I had the machinist find the center of the hole and put a key in it.
