You can not go by what Gm tells us in the Specs, They try tell you that you can not replace them. But you can get them,I never changed mine they were fine, You just can not Hot tank a Dmax, You can solvent clean it and the bearings will be fine.

I changed mine with cleavite cam bearings. Got the from Guy Tripp. My machine shop installed them along with the other work performed. They aren't that expensive, around a 100 bucks but as much as it cost to work on these babies it would be best to not cut any corners. Do it one time right.

I also installed new cam bearings in my block the first time around (actually my buddy who did the machine work for me did). A standard cam bearing tool worked just fine.

I know this is a old thread but have a question about cam bearings, do they just press in/out? We don't need an expander to install them do we?

Most guys want to leave their freeze plugs. They really need to be removed for a good cleaning. They also need to be replaced with the stock stainless plugs as well. If you tank it you have to do a good job of getting everything out if all the orifices and that means removing all expansion plugs.
