On my 88 half ton project, I'm needing to figure out what cable shifter setup to use to hook up to the 2" stock steering column, and be able to shift the Allison I have in there.

I see Lokar has a cable shift setup, but when I talked to them, they said that they won't hook up to the Allison shift arm..

Does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions of what I can use to get this stock 88 Silverado column shifter to shift this Allison?

Had that problem ended up going with a column out of a 05 Duramax and modified it to the truck. Stock 2500 pick cable worked then.

Interesting...

I did some looking a few days ago, and there is a company called shift works that has the correct connector to hook to a NSBU style lever. I'm hoping they are able to make something like what I'm after, as I'm only seeing stuff for older cars listed on their site..

Any shifter compatible with the 4L80E should work. And Bigley used a LOKAR cable in his 88 to connect the stock shift linkage to the ALLISON IIRC.

I would think its easy peasy. Use the factory linkage and revamp it to the allison. Dont make it seem so complicated for yourself. You got the dmax in an 88 you can do this part too :thumb:
I did a B&M quicksilver in my blazer and the pattern was fine. All I had to do was make a cable mount to trans.
In Frankenstein I will be doing linkage from the factory column to the alli like you have.

Ok, thanks for the advice Madspeed! After staring at the stock linkage online, (in the past few years, I have misplaced my stock linkage from the truck :(), it started to make sense to do that in my mind.

Am I wrong in thinking a majority of GM transmissions have the same shift pattern on the linkage on the trans? If so, then I have a feeling you will be right, and I'd be willing to bet the little "u" shaped piece should fit behind the nut.

Got the stock linkage from the 88 to work. I did have to modify it a little tho.

The U shaped piece that bolts to the gear selector, I had to space it away from the trans a little, as in stock form it would hit the NSBU. Then I had to shorten and ended up twisting the linkage that hooks to the U. Made a small bracket for the rod to snap into for a pivot point.
After that, I had to extend the rod from the column down to the shift selector rod. Added approximately 6" to it to reach and have a little adjustability.

After all that, it worked, shifts smooth like it came in the truck!
