A friend brought me a trans to help him rebuild. He has a allison 1000 with bd tripple disc converter/transgo kit/ converter flow valve. He bought a alligator stage v kit. It has all alto clutches and koleen steels.
Alligator told him to reuse his c5 clutches and steels because its always applied when in gear. I have not tore down trans yet to see condition it still was running well. But has 250000 miles on original trans.
should I buy new clutches and steels?
is reusing these common?
thank you guys

With a quarter of a million miles I would be installing a complete Allison overhaul kit with all new torrington bearings and new bushings. Everything in the alli will be weak. I would not use the C5 clutches over or any seal or ring in the trans. Trans cooler is suspect as well. I would install new solenoids at this point because they will not be efficient with this mileage.
The C5 clutch pack is applied in first and reverse in case you need to know.
