I just ordered a Clarion NX500 for my truck and i'm just trying to get my ducks in a row for when it gets here. I ordered the adapter (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120GMOS04/GM-Factory-Integration-Adapter.html?tp=3486&id=detailed_info) that Crutchfield prompted me to buy online to work with my Bose setup. I'm wondering both has anyone ever used this adapter and i'm sure somebody knows how to bypass the need for the vehicle to be in park to have a DVD playing. Thanks for any info in advance. -Garrett

all u have to do is run the wire to a switch, u can pick one up for a couple bucks at autozone or whatever and wire it to the switch, then all u do is flip it and it will think u applied the parking brake. thats what i have done on all of mine and i have the nx700 now and it works perfectly

Why can't the wire just be run to a hot circuit like the radio power itself. Keep in mind, I have no idea how this safety feature works.

any radios have to go from ground to hot to ground before it will allow you to play something.

my pioneer is this way, its wired to a switch but i have to flit it on and off everytime i start the truck so it thinks the p-brake is on

because it has to be to circuited to a ground, once u flip the switch it sends the grounded signal back to the indash tricking it into thinking the parking brake is on, and like beech says u have to do it everytime u turn the truck off and back on because it resets, on some indashes u have to flip the switch to on then back to off for it to work but urs should be the same as mine and just flip it to on to work

What do you mean you can't watch movies while driving down the road? Oh ooooo I see a new law coming to go with cell phone/texting while driving. :D

But seriously is that the case with the factory system or just aftermarket? What go would it do for it not to work and keep the kids occupied,I don't get it! (?)

I had to do this for my pioneer. I acutally had to use a relay on mine because a simple on off switch wouldnt work I was told. Dont ask me why but I know it works. I went on youtube and typed in the model head unit and had and it came up with a ton of instructional videos on how to bypass. Id try that route, you would be suprised at the awesome videos people make to help with the sound audio crowd!

its already illegal to drive and watch movies, if u want to keep the kids occupied u can get a rear monitor and have it played thru there while not being displayed in the front that is legal, but even factory units dont let u without the parking brake on

I had my kenwood indash installed and if it wasn't for this thread I would of never guessed that my stereo isn't suppose to play movies while driving..... I guess the shop that installed my stereo didn't care about my safety, and by the way this this kenwood excelon deck ROCKS

Each brand is different. Some of them changed as the models changed. My first Pioneer AVIC only needed it grounded. The 2nd gen AVIC needed the switch. Jensen only needs ground. I'm not sure on the others.

The shop that installed my 2nd AVIC put a big red button next to the air bag switch. I was pissed, but the switch was necessary. I don't watch movies and drive but I don't like to have limitations on things I pay for.
