i found a 2002 cc sb GMC 4x4 with 179k miles on it for $7700. to me it kinda seems like a deal to good to be true but im going to look at it later on today and it will be my first diesel truck so im new to this. what things should i look for and what things should i ask the owner. also what kind of maintance should have been done to the truck for this to be a good reliable truck for me. i dont wanna buy then have to turn and put a couple grand in it.

thanks for the help everyone

There is a lot to consider. First off find out the service history . Second look for any modifications such as EGT guage install . Third you should really have it checked out by someone who knows about these trucks like a GM dealer.

The only known mechanical issue is injectors with 01/02 LB7 engines.

Good luck

Definitely get a history and see if the injectors have been done because it is out of warranty for the injectors and that is a pricey job if they do need to be done.

There is no real maintenance over and above routine items like oil changes ,fuel filter changes and transmission spin on changes.

With that kind of mileage it would be time to change all fluids which includes transmission ,transfer case and front and rear differentials, if they haven't been done.

Then of-course you can inspect the brakes and also consider flushing the fluid. You'd be surprised the difference in braking doing a flush.

But as stated getting the maintenance history is important. If he was a do-it-your-self'er and you don't know him personally I'd ask for receipts. If he cannot produce them then I'd have to do all the above myself for peace of mind.
