I'll soon be buying nozzles for my truck. Stock nozzles.
Everyone in a while I see a full set pop up on ebay, new, in the 400-500 range.

This is one example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-5-05-CHEV-GMC-DURAMAX-LLY-INJECTOR-NOZZLES-/151443091313?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2342b62f71&vxp=mtr

Are these a good brand?
What should I keep in mind?
Who should I buy them from?
I want something as good as factory, as mine lasted 230 000miles and that's good enough for me

If you have something to say about nozzles, say it cause Im a newb

lopes at idly, engine limps with lost of fuel pressure, no start when cold winter (-8celcius hard start,-15 no start without block heater) (glow plug working). All 8 new glowplug and new glowplug controller. That weird knock around 1800 when towing.
Small traces of leaking in cylinder 3 and 5 when taken apart.
(put in studs and gaskets)

also, 230 000 MILES oem injectors

Most of the wear happens in the tip though.

Truck still runs fine if I dont step on it or push it. Im pretty sure they are rebuildable since the truck doesnt smoke at all.

This is why im asking. We do it all the time on volks.

The needles and seats in your nozzles wear into each other so mismatching them or just throwing new nozzles may cause issues.

I just went through learning all this about our injectors recently and diesel injection service shops don't recommend this procedure.

That said at 230 000 miles, there is also no chance in hell I would just replace the nozzle. Those injectors need to come out and be replaced/rebuilt. I guarantee your setting yourself up for failure if you were to just throw nozzles on an injector with 230 000 miles on it.

So basically youre saying you do a half assed job on VWs? Lol :D

Your injectors need removed and sent out for testing. Replacing the nozzle will do nothing to help your problem. There are parts inside the injector that move and wear out. ;) Exergy is a good place to send them.

And here we are replacing the whole injector when all we needed to do was replace the nozzle the whole time!

Only on ours ! But they worked fine long after. Might be a whole different story with the Duramax's though, I dunno. That's why im asking

"The needles and seats in your nozzles wear into each other so mismatching them or just throwing new nozzles may cause issues."

My understanding was that replacing nozzles on a dmax means the nozzles and seats get replaced together by new ones matched together. Or am I mistaken?

Or so far I've got lds(?) and exegy to look into for full injectors, but it's a lot of downtime to send them.

I've found a local place for good used ones for 130$ each. These are the test performed

TEST PERFORMED
• eRLC / Electrical test Resistance (Ω) & Inductance test (μH),
• LKT / Static Back leak test,
• NOP / Nozzle Opening Pressure test,
• iVM / Injector Volume Measuring test,
 Full-Load Test (Performance or Smoke issues),
 Medium-Load (Emissions Issues & Overall Operation),
 Low -Load Test) Rough Idle, start-up issues),
 Small-Injection Test (Pre/Post-Injection & Knocking),
• RSP / Injector Response time test (Emissions / Performance / Knocking / Irregular operation),
• SPR / Injector Nozzle Spray quality test.

Sounds like a good deal? I'd still have my old ones for core

Replacing nozzles is just that. You don't get new needles. Which is why if you send nozzles out to be extrude honed it's important to make sure they go back on to the same bodies.

I only have one thing to say, the one and only place to not try and save money on is injectors. Common rail injection systems don't like mismatched injectors and you're not going to fix anything with new nozzles.

Injectors have two places that control fuel flow and get worn. Ball seat is in the body and needle is in the nozzles. Replacing nozzles only fixes part if the problem on a worn/eroded injector part. Just think o it like water erosion of hard dirt or concrete. It looks very similar. I wish I could find my pictures and would show you what one little mistake can do for damages. It is mind blowing.

I was pretty sure they would sell the nozzle with the needle that fits in it ! I double checked and nope, only nozzle. On vw we would get both together... time changes

It's pretty stupid if the needle isn't new, it will never fit the new nozzle. Like replacing mason jar and keeping the rusty lids

That being said, if a used cleaned injector passes the test I mentionned, can I expect the needle, nozzle and ball seat to be all good?

PS: It would be pretty interesting to see those pictures S Phinney
