Hello
My company is retiring 2 2013 gmc duramaxs. They're single cab long bed, single wheel 3500, z71s. They both have 100,000 miles and they're asking 20k. I'm the first person to try and buy one of the 2. I'm just wondering what I need to know about these years? What are the common things to go wrong? What should I do to it if I buy it? Don't have big plans for it. Probably just a level and a proper tune. I want this truck to last. Any info helps.

Thanks

The LMLs are a pretty good truck/engine. There isn't a whole lot of issues with them. There is the CP4 high pressure fuel pump that can implode and take out much of the fuel system and injectors with it. Its rare but can happen

Lile any modern diesel, the egr can put too much soot into the intake clogging it up. Your tuner (if you go efilive) can likely make some changes to help with that

Dont go too wild with the tuning without addressing the transmission. Maybe 100 HP over stock max but will still shorten its life. 50 or 60 hp and you will probably never have any issues

I am sure there is more that others will comment on

Ya I'm not really planning on tuning it to make crazy power. Just to get it performing like it should. These trucks were also super taken care of and have a long list of service records since new. Hopefully that helps that fuel pump issue. Also, anything I should know about straight piping? I know some other diesels require I good bit but I'm not very familiar with the emissions on these trucks.

Well I'm not much help, because I literally got my first Duramax yesterday.. lol. But you'll love that thing. These trucks are beast. Mine is an '06 with 178k miles.. this is just my personal opinion as of now...: There's no need at all to tune or add any power to these trucks. They already yank your head off you neck..

If you want a better stance on the truck, I would recommend lowering the rear a couple inches rather than raising the front. Like zakkb787 said, you'll wear out front end parts if you crank it up.

For the tune, there is no need to remove emissions gear anymore. Tuners like Adrenaline Truck Performance can add enough power to nuke your transmission while remaining emissions compliant. There are some tuners who can/will do deletes, but it doesn't provide the mileage and power benefits that it did on the pre-2011 truck's, so many tuners won't even do deletes on the LML.

That's a decent price buddy. I know the cp4 fuel pumps on those are known to grenade.

Other then what's been said. Look into getting rid of the EGR system, the stock exhaust system and intake. Lift pumps are a great investment too.
