Yes, take it to a plating shop like a rechromer or bumper shop. May have to send it to another state, but have the plating stripped off. Had mine done a few years back on another vehichle and was about $40.
Then metal prep, epoxy primer and then basecoat and clearcoat if 2 stage paint or just paint with color if single stage. Most definately use urethane paint.
might rather try aftermarket (collision parts/gypsy) painted ones, and sve the chrome if in good shape.
I would just hit a junk yard and find a base model truck and paint over it.
Not only that. You could sell the chrome ones, buy painted ones, all the stuff to make the color you want, and still have money for beer while your doing it.
