Question: Buddy blew up his cummins

Its an 02 4wd dually with 130K miles. He bought it with 50K on it, he had a superchips and some other box stacked on it for 50Kish, then for the last 30K he was just running the superchips to compensate for the 18wheeler wheels he has on it. The only other mods are 100hp injectors, 4" exhaust and I believe he said a J hook on the wastegate. Anyway long story short he was pulling a 44' enclosed trailer and pulled over at a gas station and oil was dripping on the ground. Took it to a shop the next day and they told him it had a 3' crack in the block. He had to pull the trailer back home(150ish miles) and in that time it drank/spewed 5 gallons of oil. I know nothing about the cummins engine but to me it seems he wasnt really making enough power to split the block. Anyway, what is a good price for a used 24valve that has decent miles on it? Im either going to find one to swap in there or buy the truck from him and do it myself. If I decide to buy it from him what would be a good price to offer him? Its an extended cab, leveling springs up front, 18 wheeler wheels/tires, semi-built trans(converter, clutches and valve body work), and the other mentioned mods above. How hard is it to swap one of these motors, Ive been all over and through GEN III chevy stuff, but no diesel stuff.

Sounds like a classic 53 block story. You can find 24 valves a dime a dozen. If not a 12 valve block should work.

The cummins swap is not hard at all to do.

Cummins had issues out of some 99-02 24 valve blocks. They have 53 stamped on the block. They have a extended warranty on the motor and should be covered

I would start on craigslist
